We're so glad you found us. We teach and train Foundational skills, meaning all the things any horse, and their handler, should have to be successful in any discipline.
For horses this means their fitness, balance, and understanding of their job, whether it will be riding, driving, liberty, whatever. That they know how to be a good citizen in our world, readily doing things like being caught, leading, trailer loading, standing for hoof and vet care, and meeting other new challenges with curiosity, not fear.
We seek to build good partners in our animals and also in ourselves. Understanding how your horse is wired, and how to work with that to move toward your goals. How to make your horse feel safe so they can be open to learning. How you can feel safe and supported learning or re-learning skills. This is what we mean when we talk about Horsemanship.
We will work with you and your equine partner, or one of our amazing teaching horses, to set the foundation for a safe, trusting. and respectful relationship.

Meet Joe Washburn
Owner and Trainer, JW Horsemanship & Services Joe is a native Texan, living in and around the Houston area for most of his life. He discovered his love of horses and horsemanship almost 20 years ago, at an open horse event, and has never looked back. Currently located at the Heart-Work Center in Brenham, TX, Joe runs his Horsemanship School as well as a Board & Train program that accepts a select few horses in for starting and training.
He is also an expert barefoot trimmer, one of the few that will also train horses and donkeys to accept farrier work if they have never learned these skills. Contact us for more information!
